The Best of Life: Growth & Discovery Plus Good Friendships

In my life (at least in the last 25 years) I have been focused on growing as a person. Granted, I have lived in two very challenging places in the last 15 years; whereby needed support was not really present. At least the present place I'm living at is better than Alaska was. I hang out at interesting places (such as the senior center & libraries, school, etc.) because I like meeting interesting people. I have had the privilege of meeting a lady who has had a transcontinental life ~ living in some places that I have an interest in and a curiousity about such as Vancouver Canada, Tacoma WA (Greg & I were this close to living there 16 years ago as he was supposed to be stationed there after Korea), San Francisco and New Hampshire. I don't meet people like this very often, in this locale. She has an enthusiasm that is so refreshing.

She & her husband like Greg and I, were moved here courtesy of our husbands' employers. It was kind of a first look at New Mexico. After my friend's travels in state, she has some places in mind. She's pretty much seen what Clovis has to offer and she'd like to travel on. I am of the same mind; however, we will be here until I get my RN certificate or higher.

My friend loves to explore the small towns of New Mexico. She has opened my mind up alot as to the real possibility that Greg & I could live in small town NM and commute in to larger populated areas. I've seen many of the houses for sale/lease and I have to say that I'm intrigued. What will be true however, is that Greg and I will need to lease a property. I can't see being stuck with a house. I have friends who are in that situation now and it's most unpleasant.

Greg and I have good friends who live in Las Vegas in a beautifully appointed home and it's crossed our minds to live out there, after we leave Clovis. I've also seen that the Ruidoso NM area has alot of historical interest not to mention the gorgeous mountains, the hummingbirds, etc. As much as I like Ruidoso, inevitably there would be snow and I think that Alaska has totally ruined my attitude about snow. I used to love it. Now I don't like it so much.

One lady that I have had an opportunity to listen to at the senior center is in her mid/late 80s and she has survived in her long life three different kinds of cancer. I like meeting people like here ~ somehow she survived it. She is a traveler ~ enjoys visiting her children. She goes to all senior center events. It's people like this who show you a path.

The best of life is to grow beyond one's limitations. To contribute in a meaningful way those that need help and compassion. To discover and read and discuss. To have the warmth and the insightful conversations of friends and loved ones.
