People (including an instructor) asked me why I am in school for an occupation that would have been (hopefully) working in my 60s/possibly 70s. I am motivated by the power to earn and the joy of working and achieving. As a person in my late 50s, I looked for a local job in a notoriously bad economy of Eastern New Mexico to no avail. I had enjoyed alot of work success in Anchorage albeit my last position there had been attained only by aggressively looking and interviewing for a position for a full year (in the great economy of Alaska)..... simply because I had begun (I guess) to look "older". In early years in Alaska, it was very easy for me to get hired for the high paying oil company work contracts as well as work on government contracts.
While working on a contract for the Army Civilian Personnel Operations Center, I was working as a Human Resource Specialist in a field I loved working in and making more money than I'd ever made for a period of well over five years. During those years, I was able to go to Hawaii numerous times as well as California and other locales. The feeling of working in this field, helping others to make their dreams come true in working to help them get a good government job, was fantastic. When my government contract was over, I was not a happy camper! I want that kind of achievement again.
