A Bad Accident and Redemption in Santa Fe

My 2003 Toyota Corolla bought in Anchorage during the best job success I've had in my life. A reward to myself for working hard. I bought it brand new at Nye Toyota in Anchorage. It has at present 57,000 miles on it. It has never been in a wreck until now.
It was Friday. Greg and I had planned to hit the road and go to Santa Fe for the weekend. I had been a little stressed about school; so I looked forward to our nice time ahead. So about 2:15 pm, I got into the nice warm, gardenia-scented bath to soak and relax. I had the door closed and our labrador (Little Bear), had been sleeping on the bed in the bedroom. Then I hear this horrible sound. Living in Alaska as long as I had, I immediately thought we had had a quake.

Then I heard the doorbell ring. I had already jumped out of the bath to see what the sound was all about; so I wrapped myself in a jumbo towel and peaked through the peephole in my door and saw that it was a neighbor. I must have been in shock but I answered the door with a towel wrapped around me. He said someone had run into my garage
. I must have been really out of it; but I walked outside (on a very cold day) and stood out there talking to neighbors gathered in my front yard.

A neighbor living 5 doors down from me had blacked out (diabetic) and his large SUV had plowed into my garage door (pushing it through) to my car and he evidently was going at a pretty good rate of speed, as he pushed my car into my laundry room. And my washing machine got pushed sufficiently enough to cause a long vertical crack in the wall in the kitchen. I was not too happy about any of this. Granted we are leasing from Coldwell Banker. I loved my car and took pride in keeping it in great shape ~ I had bought it new in Anchorage for well over $18,000 ~ 2003 Toyota Corolla and was so careful with it ~ no one ever slid into me in that area of ice and snow.

I have had alot of coursework to keep on top of and some assorted annoyances had popped up. I really didn't need this to happen. My husband showed up from work and was of course, really shocked. After all the people had left and all the authorities had left, I just didn't want to be in Clovis anymore (not that I can say I adore Clovis (an extension of West Texas) but I just didn't need this to happen (to have to hassle with).

So my husband and puppy dog got on the road and we went to Santa Fe. It felt wo
nderful to see all the beauty of the land around there. We stayed in a hotel convenient to the plaza and walked around the Santa Fe plaza some, as well as toured the new New Mexico Museum . I had always been curious about NM history from the time of the native americans inhabiting the area on through the Spanish coming up through NM & AZ.

We also hit t
he road and went to Lake Cochiti pueblo ~ beautiful area. This area obviously is on Indian land but they have built homes on the higher part of their land and the views from the these gorgeous homes is just to die for. I have a friend who is in a big hurry to sell her home in order to buy a home out there (convenient to both Santa Fe- 24 miles and Albuquerque).

Everytime we travel around New Mexico we learn something new and wonderful. Needless to say, I came back from Santa Fe 2.5 days later; feeling so much better and up for talking to insurance companies, etc. Time with my husband in these lovely areas regenerates my spirit......

It was interesting how we came here. I had had a fascination with New Mexico for quite some time while living in Anchorage. In our dressing room, there were pictures of New Mexico hanging. Every day we'd get up and go in there to dress for work. Then the job offer came to Greg from Cannon Air Force Base. Granted, where we live is a different place (although I have friends I enjoy here); but we're right down the interstate from other worlds..... and that's a very good thing.
