It's always so nice to talk to an old friend. Maybe we don't live in the same town and are not weekly in touch, but keeping in contact by email/phone and travel is a really great thing.
My friend, Angela, who I met in Anchorage through a 12 step group in 1995, has the world's greatest sense of humor. She recently has been down with illness and I heard that in some of her latest emails to me. While I was not raised in the same part of the country that she was (NE ..... actually the snow capital of the area, Buffalo NY), she and I bond well with a very caring friendship from times shared together in Anchorage when we shared some happy holiday dinners together as well as some 'Welcome Home from Hawaii' dinners. She and I had lunches together while living in Anchorage, both with one of her friends and with each other.
She and I both have a good sense of humor and all it takes is for me to say something goofy (normal) and we're cracking up. Our last thing was... we were talking about somethings just couldn't be solved. So I said, 'Well, what are you to do? Squak and lay an egg?". Oh, there we were off and running. Laughing like hyenas. She is such a joy. Love her sense of humor. While in Anchorage, she and I enjoyed shopping sales in Nordstrom's and talks on planning what & where our next trip to Hawaii would be. I never forgot listening to Angie's tales of shock when she talked about her shock at seeing chickens on Kauai. She and her husband ran a very successful business in Anchorage.
While in Anchorage, she'd be talking on the phone with me and then yell at her husband and then get back on the phone with me and just laugh hysterically. So off the wall and always a joy. One time, we were eating at a new oriental bakery/restaurant in town and I ordered some japanese soup. She took one sniff of it and said, "I can't eat this". Since I'm always kind of a mother hen, I said, "You're being a baby! It's good!"
Greg and I drove out to Vegas last March to see she and John and spent several days with them. They knew the best places to go in town. We had a blast. She has a great way of interior designing homes and her home is lovely - perfect size for her and husband, John and their three large, much beloved tropical birds. I look forward to getting out there again and getting to share some time with her.
