I stayed up very late last night watching mostly non-sense and not getting any studying done. Studying has pretty much been on my mind non-stop. With an Anatomy class, where you pretty much need to know and understand 2-3 chapters every other Tuesday and the 'off' Tuesday, you get presented with a lab topic in which you need to do homework on since you'll be tested additionally on the lab topic (test will be all memorization - write it out from memory (which means no multiple choice). So there's a pretty good amount of information to 'infuse' in a fairly short amount of time. Lab tests (memorization) every other Tuesday and then every other Tuesday, you'll have an Exam with 35-50 questions (maybe more) on the 2-3 Chapters you've read and had lectures on. I am also taking a fairly demanding Psych class as well as a Communications class. So my cup doth runneth over with work to do.
In my Anatomy class, I sat next to this young clicklet who said to me in a fairly smarty kind of way, after the first exam, "Ha, ha. What did you get on the exam?" Purveyed in such a way that there was an indication that she felt there was no way this old lady could not have passed; since she alas a young lady didn't pass it. I told her that I had gotten 79 percent correct. Oh gee, the young one had failed it. It really doesn't matter to me what anyone else gets on their test. I am concerned that I'm able to upload or download into my cerebullum the information I need to so that I can do well in this course. It's no easy walk in the park. My poor husband has had weekends now of me studying and him watching tv - not been terribly exciting for him. But alas, Spring break will be coming up in a few weeks so that will be a nice time for both of us.
What has helped me in this course is that I did have Chemistry the semester before so I had a jump on understanding some things that ordinarily I would not have. I do wish I would have been advised to take Biology 101 as well as the subsequent course, so that I wouldn't have to be learning about the cell as well as the microscope and techniques. Those courses would have helped me alot. Fortunately, I am curious about the human body. It is quite fascinating ---- even to see how one cell in the human body does everything it does from fighting off germs to taking in nutrients to growing and dividing. It's awe-inspiring. But there is so much information to take in.
This has been the most work intensive semester I have had. I sure am glad I didn't take a ton of hours. The teachers are very good. I have taken coursework in my "mature" adulthood at University of Alaska at Anchorage as well as Cochise College in Arizona and now, here; and I'll have to say that I'm very pleased with the quality of instruction I get here.
It was refreshing tonight to go out to dinner with my husband. Then go out for coffee with a good friend and find out how her life is going. She's a very interesting person - lots of interests and great sense of humor. Tomorrow will be study day for me and then she & her husband and me & my husband will get together at our home for movies and Alaskan salmon! We're excited! All work and no play makes for a boring life. I will be glad once the semester is over. Tata for now; friends and family.
