Clovis

I guess first of all, is that my husband has a career that appeals to him here. However, were there to be an opening in a place like Albuquerque or Las Vegas or .... well, you get the idea; we would take a very serious look. However, at this moment, positives are on my mind.

Coming here from Alaska four years ago, I was just blown away by the friendliness of the people as well as the good manners I saw. Everything here was almost opposite to many Alaskan ways. I still notice after being here four years that people will make a conversation anywhere with other people.

The overall friendliness of the people in this town is appealing. However, I have observed that the mention of politics is not a good thing. Were you to mention that you have concerns about the environment and that the polar bears are starving to death because their snow islands* are breaking up due to the unseasonable polar warmth, people will look at you like you have been abducted by aliens. Being raised in East Texas, my grandmother used to tell me, "one doesn't talk in polite company about religion or politics". She was right.

Clovis is a small town and not much goes on here in terms of crime or traffic. You can still see people sitting in lawn chairs on their porches or in their garages and you'll always get a friendly wave no matter whether they know you or not. This is true while you're walking the dog, you can count on people to wave. If you go to a social organization, people will greet you and ask for your phone number and welcome you in a warm way.

Also appealing is the fact that you can get on I-40 in about 40 minutes time and head to attractions to the west like Albuquerque ~ some 240 miles to the west or Santa Fe, 200 miles to the northwest. The area has some interest in wild west history ~ 50 miles down the road is Billy the Kid's grave. He was shot here while on the run from a jail break by Pat Garrett.

The area has a near perfect climate. While it can get warm during the summer days to 90 degrees, when the sun goes down, it will be very comfortable around 70 degrees into the night. There is a low humidity which makes it very comfortable. The only thing that stops me from wanting to be here forever is that I am a liberal. I'm about as liberal as our awesome President. I don't believe there are too many people here that are liberal; at least, in my experience. I am interested in growth and I can't get that here.
